Bid Questions
Question

How many air handling units can be down for the required wheel replacement at any given time?

Answer

Only one (1) air handling unit shall be down at a given time. The air handling unit upon which work is being completed shall be operational at the end of each workday; however, it is not necessary for the wheels in that air handling unit to be operational while work is being completed on that air handling unit. It should be noted that work shall occur on air handling units, as much as is practicable, during times when ambient conditions are relatively moderate so as to minimize low or elevated space temperatures in the building.

Also note that this is an occupied correctional facility. There may be days during which the Owner requests work to be suspended. Some occasional work suspensions should be factored into the bid. Extended periods of work suspension are not anticipated; however, weather conditions will likely factor into the construction work schedule. If weather extremes occur during the time that work on a unit is scheduled, this weather may necessitate a suspension of work.

Question What considerations are needed for the fire/smoke alarms in the AHUs?
Answer There are in-duct smoke detectors in the supply and return/exhaust ductwork for each of the air handling units. The contractor shall work with the Owner’s maintenance personnel to disable the in-duct smoke detectors on the respective air handling unit during the work that is occurring on that air handling unit. The in-duct smoke detectors shall be put back into service at the end of each workday.
