REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS
African Plains and the Americas Habitats

The City of Manhattan, through Sunset Zoo, a division of the Parks and Recreation Department, is requesting qualifications from professional design consultants to assist the City in preparing conceptual design and 30% drawings and a construction budget estimate to be utilized for future capital planning and fund-raising. The project will generally include preliminary design services for new or renovated animal habitats focusing on African Plains, Australia, and the Americas, and featuring a contact corral, a lemur exhibit, and a bobcat exhibit. A pre-application meeting will be held June 21, 2023, 1:30 – 3:30 PM at the education building on the grounds of Sunset Zoo, 2333 Oak Street, Manhattan, Kansas. The conference is not mandatory, but attendance is strongly encouraged. Questions regarding this RFQ should be addressed at the pre-application conference or may be submitted in writing to Scott Shoemaker, Zoo Director, at shoemaker@cityofmhk.com

Submittals will be received at the Sunset Zoo, 2333 Oak Street, Manhattan, KS 66502 until 5:00 PM, July 7, 2023. Submissions shall be enclosed in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Sunset Zoo African Plains and the Americas Habitats RFQ Submission.” The City will not accept oral submissions, or copies received by telephone, facsimile machine, or e-mail. All submissions received after the deadline shall be returned.
